There were three strange happenings that followed my husband's uncles suicide in 1990. First, the day of his death, I was on my way home and passed by his house, stopped at a stop sign right beside his driveway, and my car unexplainedly died, and started again only with some trouble. No one would know until hours later that Uncle Lonnie lay dead inside that house, having shot himself with a shotgun. The day of his funeral, I couldn't bring myself to go, but later I decided to ride y horse over to my mother-in-laws house. As I passed by uncle Lonnie's house, there were a few mourners still present. I paused across the road to look, and noticed a figure sitting at the picnic table in the backyard - it looked just like uncle Lonnie - with his characteristic jeans with rolled cuffs above loafers without socks, and his baseball cap with the turned up bill. I was fascinated, this must be a relative of Lonnie's, but why dressed so shabbily? Later I asked another family member about the person, and they told me with confusion that there was absolutely no one at that house dressed in jeans, only people who had just come from the funeral all dressed up.... Uncle Lonnie had a small garden of which he was particularly proud and loved to work in. It was usual to drive by and wave at him as he worked happily among his vegetables. A few weeks later I was driving by, and lo and behold there was Uncle Lonnie, plain as could be, tending his garden as always. It was such a common sight at first I just waved and smiled as he waved back and went back to his hoeing. It wasn't until about two miles down the road when I realized what had seen and nearly ran my car off the road!!! So if the dead can come back.....all I can say is Uncle Lonnie came back to where he was happiest. How it changed my life:It gave me a feeling of peace to see Uncle Lonnie again, to see his spirit happier obviously in death than he had been in life, going about his business from the other side.
