Bakersfield High School, the oldest school in Bakersfield. So old its older than the city itself. Bakersfield High is 108 years old as of this year Bakersfield is 105. The campus stands where an old hospital once stood, one part of the school(Elm Grove) was once a site where they threw amputated limbs...the reason for it being next to train tracks. Over the years the stories of hauntings have accumulated. Stories from janitors and teachers working late seeing shadows of an eerie presence, even students have their stories. I have experienced spirits at the school before. I would sometimes have to stay late after school for practicing a speech for forensics. Last year, my coach had to leave early leaving my duo partner and myself alone in the room. We were talking bout'ghosts and all that good stuff in the far off corner in the room. The lights turned off. I didnt think too much of it since the light switches have censors. I walked over there to turn them back on. They came back on when I was about 7 ft. away. We resumed talking. Again the light turn off. I go back to turn them on, this time I was at the light switch before it flicked back on. We left the room after that. another story is to why the locked off access to the top of each of the buildings. Back in the 50's or 60's someone jumped off of the roof of Warren Hall. To this day only a few teachers, janitors and select students even gain access to the top. Another story is of a couple who would cut class every day and would go to the top of Griffith Stadium and make-out. One day the couple died in an auto accident. Coaches say that you can see the couple kissng after a football game or anytime after hours. The coaches wont stay after school by themselves because of the school hauntings. Another story happend to one of my friends. 2 years ago on Halloween, she went trick or treating with friends and they happened to be near the school so they decided to try to break into one of the buildings, Spindt Hall to be exact. They reached the door and saw shadows in the windows. They ran towards the gate. They saw the figures again and lights flickered on. One of her friends went back to the doors of the building(he was going to get paid $20 for doing this) the lights flickered on inside the building. He tried to open the door but they were locked. Nobody could have been there at that hour. They ran back to a friends house nearby. This story happened to my brother when he attended BHS. He was there after school with some friends waiting for the coach(he was also in forensics) to return from a teachers meeting so he was sitting outside of another teachers door in Harvey auditorium. All of the doors have a tiny space from the ground to the door. The lights were off in the coaches room. the lights turned on, and there was a shadow as if someone had been standing where the door is, inside the class. But they knew no one was in there and that the doors were locked. They didn't freak out but were scared. These are just a few stories of Bakersfield High.
